Orenburg gas pipe malfunctions, no leak hazard, Gazprom Neft says

MOSCOW, Aug 18 (PRIME) – Gazprom Neft halted a process pipeline at the Orenburg field after a malfunction, the maximum permissible concentration of harmful substances in the air was not exceeded, a company spokesperson told PRIME on Wednesday.

“At 11 p.m. on August 17, a gas pipeline malfunction was detected in the eastern section of the Orenburg field, so it was promptly shut down for repairs,” the company said.

Company’s mobile ecological laboratories monitored the air in the nearby settlements all night from August 17 to 18. During the night, there were short-term exceedances of harmful substances followed by normalization of the air. “As of 9:00 a.m., no exceedances of harmful substances were registered,” Gazprom Neft noted.

The malfunction at the gas pipeline was promptly detected and eliminated thanks to the environmental monitoring system of Gazprom Neft-Orenburg.

Gazprom Neft-Orenburg, a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft, produces hydrocarbons in the Orenburg Region at 11 license areas comprising 9 fields. The environmental monitoring system named ‘Shchit’ has been used by Gazprom Neft-Orenburg since 2017.
